ABOUT US
We are a faith-centered Taekwondo and Self Defense class.
We were founded in 2007 by Master Matt Tucker with Western Michigan Martial Arts, who handed the class off in 2013 to his two black belts, Scott Domont and Andrew Hubbard. In 2019, we joined Fellowship of Christian Martial Artists (FCMA), started by 6th Degree Master Erik Beach, who studied under Master Monte Beghtol.
Class is instructed by Mr. Scott Domont and Mr. Andrew Hubbard, who are both 3rd Degree Black Belts with FCMA, 2nd Degree with WMMA, and 1st Degree with Kukkiwon. We also have many other assistant instructors and guest instructors.

We teach students to be disciplined, respectful, strong and safe, and to love and serve others.
With a focus on outreach and ministry of the Word, this is a donation-only based ministry. Donations are not required but only for those whom the Lord lays it on their hearts to give. Otherwise come and learn at no charge. Donations are used for occasional equipment and the betterment of the class. They are also given away to serve the needs of those around us and to fund service projects.
This class is held from 6-8pm on Thursday evenings at First Baptist Church of Spring Lake.
118 E. Exchange St., Spring Lake, MI.
Class is for anyone ages 10 through adult that wants to learn Martial Arts. We will allow ages 6-9 on a case-by-case basis if the parent participates in taking the class with them.
We put emphasize on the inward character development of discipline, respect, strength, love and service as well as basic striking and blocking techniques, kata, self defense, and free sparring. We meditate on God's Word and pray at the beginning and end of every class.
All our curriculum and teaching prepares our students to continue their learning and progression in Taekwondo no matter where life may take them.
MEET THE INSTRUCTORS
SCOTT DOMONT
Lead Instructor
Scott remembers that first moment that he held his baby girl in his arms. Holding her close, his mind went to the world that she had just come into. Wanting to do all that he could to help her be safe in it, he said out loud, “She’ll be a black belt by the time she is 18.” What a “new daddy” thing to say. The midwives laughed. When she turned 6 Scott started taking a martial arts class together with her. (Both of them were white belts.) Then his second daughter joined, then his two younger sons, then his wife Christine. Before his oldest daughter turned 18, all six had reached black belt. Now they enjoy leading and being a part of F.I.T. working with youth and adults to: 1. Know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. 2. To be challenged to walk in a way that is worthy of Christ. and 3. To be safe and help keep others safe in this dark world.
ANDREW HUBBARD
Lead Instructor
In 2009, Drew noticed that the church he was attending had a weekly self defense class. Intrigued by such a class being at a church, he visited and was pleasantly surprised to find it being lead by an excellent taekwondo instructor. He enjoyed the teaching, the people, and the challenge to grow. He received his first black belt in March of 2014, and is now a third degree black belt. He has been teaching since 2014, and enjoys incorporating a mix of other martial arts, theories, philosophies, and practical teachings into classes today. His greatest achievement is not receiving a rank himself, but rather seeing students push themselves to grow and become black belts themselves, accomplishing things they previously only dreamed of.
RICHARD GAUTHIER
Assistant Instructor
Rich started martial arts when he was 11 years old; this included wrestling and karate. He wrestled throughout high school but did not have the discipline he needed for karate. After high school he joined the military and started Taekwondo learning under Master Maze. After the military, Rich went to college where he met Master Monte Beghtol in 1992. He trained with him 5 days a week. In 1996, he received his 1st Dan black belt and in May 1998, received his 2nd Dan. Rich continued training until 2011, when Master Monte passed away. However, he came back in 2017 and has since then attained his 4th Dan in 2020.
ERIK BEACH
Assistant Instructor
Erik started training when he was 11 years old, under several different instructors. He enjoyed learning and was going to 5 classes a week. He adopted his instructor's teaching, that no matter what style he saw, if it worked, we were teaching it and calling it taekwondo. He is blessed to still be learning and teaching 30 some years later!
MARK POWERS
Assistant Instructor
Mark started studying Taekwondo many years ago, so many years ago, in fact, he doesn't want to admit it. (Ronald Reagan was president...)
While a student at Michigan State University, Mark worked out with the Michigan State University Taekwondo Club; a club founded by Korean exchange students and their American friends. Mark also studied Judo while at MSU, although with less enthusiasm.
Mark continued practicing martial arts during law school and after moving to Chicago. While living in Chicago, Mark studied Hapkido as well, a Korean martial art focused on joint locks and throws.
After moving back to Michigan, Mark resumed his prior contact with the West Michigan Taekwondo Association.
BOB GARY
